NORTHRIDGE, California – In a high-profile, international event highlighting the suitability of JBL VERTEC®
loudspeakers for demanding applications, global production design and lighting specialty vendor Valerio Maioli
SPA was contracted to provide the lighting, CCTV, trusses and public address for the inaugural FORMULA 1™
SingTel Singapore Grand Prix. The event took place on September 28 on a street circuit of public roads around
the Marina Bay area in Singapore. The race was the first to be held at night in FORMULA 1 history, with the
timing of the night event enabling live broadcasts at a time convenient for European TV audiences. Over
110,000 tickets were made available for this first street race held in Asia, and a full sell-out was achieved.
For specialized audio functions in the pit building which served drivers, factory teams, race management and
the global media, Electronics & Engineering Pte Ltd. of Singapore worked under Valerio Maioli SPA for the
supply, installation and operation of the audio systems in four main areas of the pit building, including the Media
Centre, Paddock Club Suites, Press Conference Room and the Podium area.
In the main grandstand podium area, which in addition to race announcements was used to support the
opening and awards ceremonies for the main event and all supporting races, individual JBL VERTEC VT4887A
compact line array elements were truss-mounted to provide premium, high-output sound coverage in the VIP
area nearest the podium zone. A bi-amplified, 3-way system, the VT4887A features JBL’s exclusive Differential
Drive™ component transducers with neodymium magnets and dual voice-coils for maximum output power and
premium fidelity from a small package.
Additionally, the press conference room was served by a group of JBL Control
29AV-1 premium indoor/outdoor monitor speakers. The audio system at the
media centre, featuring JBL Control 24CT in-ceiling speakers for background
music and paging was a localized system, used to feed race commentary and
press-conference audio to the media centre. The paddock club suites were
equipped with Control 23T ultra-compact indoor/outdoor
background/foreground loudspeakers.
“JBL’s wide range of professional loudspeaker products includes a broad
number of effective system solutions,” observed Gary Goh, Project and
Applications Manager for Electronics & Engineering Pte Ltd. “It was an historic
occasion for the Formula One Grand Prix to be staged here in Singapore, and
our entire team was proud to play a part in the sound reinforcement aspects of
the event using JBL.”
