The new EVO speaker system from JBL Professional has been installed at the
high profile Teatr Komedia in Warsaw. The theatre, built in the
19th century, is one of the busiest and most successful in Poland,
primarily due to its popular and accessible programme of entertainment.
The theatre
was looking for a dynamic and highly precise sound system that
would be applicable for a wide variety of shows. They approached
JBL's Polish distributor Polsound, with whom they have worked
previously. Polsound assessed the theatre's needs and recommended
a JBL EVO speaker system.
Firstly,
they demonstrated the system at the theatre. The demonstration
proved that EVO could maximise the natural acoustics of the 19th
century venue, and also catering to the demands of 21st Century
entertainment. The technical team was impressed enough to place
the order straight away. The design, supply and installation of
the EVO/JBL system was overseen by Polsound's Wojciech Puczynski
& Pawel Danikiewicz.
Four EVOi.324
speakers are used for the main auditorium left and right arrays.
They are joined by two JBL Marquis Series MS28s for centre fills
in the front rows of the stalls. Two low-profile JBL Array 4893A
sub-woofers are rigged above the centre fills. This slightly unorthodox
position was chosen because of limited options for placement.
However they work extremely well for sound effects, blasting additional
low end energies out over the stalls. Danikiewicz added that the
EVO speakers themselves also have the advantage of plenty of rich
bottom end, so the subs are rarely used.
Four channels
of surround sound throughout the curved auditorium is pumped out
by an additional ten MS28s, making a total of seven discreet channels
of sound, plus a low frequency subwoofer channel in the venue.
All signals are routed through a Crown USM810 digital matrix mixer
(now the BSS PSS8810), which takes care of all dynamics processing,
delays, crossovers etc. The system uses a joystick for the surround
panning through a Yamaha 03D digital desk.
Danikiewicz
explains that the EVO's built-in feedback suppression has been
invaluable in the theatre, and they are extremely happy with the
system. "EVO has proven to be a great system for theatres
like this," commented Danikiewicz. "The reproductive
quality is excellent and the set up is very easy."
Polsound
has also recently supplied the Philharmonic Theatre in Bialystok
with two EVOi.324 speakers for general augmentation, together
with a number of JBL Control 28 speakers for fills.
Polsound
has been a JBL distributor for over 10 years and has supplied
JBL products into many diverse applications. Recently they supplied
CRAFTMAN and GMB Pro Sound, two leading Polish rental companies
with a total of 32 boxes of the VerTec VT4889 line array system.
The two companies agreed to make their systems compatible thus
creating currently one of the largest VerTec systems in Europe.
"JBL
Professional is excellent equipment," states Danikiewicz.
"There is a choice of speaker for every conceivable application
and type of performance."
